With TRON’s acquisition of BitTorrent in July 2018, the company has concluded moves to combine blockchain and file sharing together with their latest venture, Project Atlas.
According to an announcement made by the Decentralized Internet startup, Tron, the firm gave new details of its bid to integrate both functions with its torrent client BitTorrent, which will be a blend of blockchain technology with BitTorrent’s massive peer-to-peer infrastructure.
“We aim to eventually empower all content creators and their communities by eliminating the middleman and enabling content creators to distribute directly to users… to start, the product will feature faster downloads, more seeds, no mining, and backward compatibility,” TRON CEO Justin Sun commented.

About Project Atlas

Since the birth of the Internet, many projects have been launched to make the web a better place, with each promising greater incentives than others.
Project Atlas is one that is built to fuse two worlds together. This tends to bring content creators to a platform where they can interact directly with content consumers, thereby eliminating the services of an intermediary like Amazon that charges users specific fees for sharing their contents to users or for bringing the contents for users’ consumption.
BitTorrent as a platform already has a reward system in place, one that encourages users to share their files and also be responsible members of the community.
Tron is now seeking to use its TRX token within the BitTorrent’s platform’s user base to create a combination of content sharing ecosystem.
The system will use its tokens to reward users who seed files and use faster nodes, as well as those who share more of their bandwidth and storage space. Those who continue to seed torrent files after completed downloads can also earn tokens as a reward.
However, its critiques will point to the misuse of file sharing and torrenting platforms by pirates and criminals.
Tron has promised to still keep the services on BitTorrent’s platform free in the meantime while new changes are being made to give users an awesome experience.
As of press time, TRON (TRX) is ranked as the 13th largest cryptocurrency in the world, trading around $0.02 with a total market cap of over $1.4 billion, according to CMC.
