The confrontational programmer, security software magnate and cryptocurrency advocate John McAfee is back in full force on social media following the mysterious poisoning attack he suffered through earlier this month. He is now urging his social media followers to take a hard look at cryptocurrency exchanges, especially Hitbtc, and boycott the unfair companies.

“The crypto exchanges have become the thing that we have originally fought against. Their power is immense. Hitbtc, for example, has increased suffering for millions of poor people who cannot afford the minimum buy-in since it is greater than their monthly income. Boycott them.”

McAfee has always preached about the ability of blockchain and cryptocurrency to remove the shackles of central banks and be free from regulatory government action.  He is always advocating for a peer to peer economy where citizens of the world can build towards being truly free for the first time in history.

The argument for boycotting exchanges like Hitbtc presented by McAfee centers around the idea that big players in crypto are working to find ways to squeeze out those in poverty or even the average Joe. By making entry harder for the masses, the value can be concentrated by the few elite coin holders.

Exchanges have had to face a multitude of controversial incidents from hacks robbing them of millions in coins, to accusations of market manipulation.  Anger with these issues extends to all reaches of the crypto community. Whales and guppies alike have expressed frustration with crypto exchanges and how they operate.

McAfee was cryptic in his tweets and didn’t go into much detail on his boycott suggestion. McAfee didn’t explain with any specificity his issue with Hitbtc in particular, and also didn’t offer any possible replacements or substitutes for cryptocurrency exchanges or the current means of purchasing cryptocurrency.  However, the opinionated McAfee may storm forward with his boycott plan in detail in the coming days.
