William Shatner, the legendary actor who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek has long been a cryptocurrency enthusiast. Now the man who journeyed into the final frontier plans on building an authentication system powered by the Ethereum blockchain. Back in May 2019, he announced his intentions to help build a blockchain that will be centered around memorabilia authentication.

He appealed to Elon Musk along with Vitalik Buterin. And oddly after more than a year Musk got back to him. Musk stated he did not have much use for Ethereum at the moment.

Even though Musk might not be on board, Shatner still sees a major use case for blockchain in the memorabilia game. And Captain Kirk also joked about the year-long delay before the Tesla CEO issued a response.

“That reply only took a year! I still love you even though you haven’t found blockchain technology fascinating!”

Elon Musk has never been shy about making his sentiments known on social media. He will touch on a variety of topics and cryptocurrency is one of them. He’s even admitted to thinking Dogecoin is “cool” and that the community is impressive.

But Musk, who is famous for throwing out ominous tweets sends mixed signals when it comes to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Not too long ago, he appeared on the Third Row Tesla Podcast and said He was “neither here nor there on Bitcoin.”

He went on to explain its use is more for fringe activities.

“This sort of gets the crypto people angry, but there are transactions that are not within the balance of the law. And there are, obviously, many laws in different countries. And, normally, cash is used for these transactions. But, in order for illegal transactions to occur, cash must also be used for legal transactions. You need an illegal to legal bridge. That’s where crypto comes in.”

Obviously the cryptocurrency world needs the mega-rich and powerful to show interest in using blockchain for mass adoption to occur. For now, the crypto space will have to settle for the Captain of the Enterprise instead of the creator of SpaceX.
