Mono Lisa De Histoire is a newly-minted collection of original NFT artworks that depicts different women through history in the famous pose captured by Lisa del Giocondo, better known as the subject of the Mona Lisa. This one-of-a-kind collection has recently been made available for sale on OpenSea, the world’s largest marketplace for NFTs.

Created on the Ethereum blockchain, Mono Lisa De Histoire consists of 60 unique artworks created by a collective of independent artists from around the world. The collection celebrates culturally-significant female figures while representing them in Mona Lisa-style portrait renderings, highlighting the changes in perception of women over time. The portraits include representations of well-known women in politics, art, literature, film, television, and elsewhere.

A Modern Renaissance of Art

The adoption of blockchain technology has been accelerated in the last couple years thanks in large to the advent of the non-fungible token, or NFT. The popularization of NFTs and acceptance of its underlying tech has encouraged the formation of an entirely new “creator economy,” leading to the emergence of a vibrant new mode of artistry.

In this new, blockchain-driven economy, creativity can be rewarded directly by those who derive enjoyment or benefit from it, as cryptocurrency removes all friction associated with traditional payment systems. This phenomenon has enabled an entire generation of artists to not only flourish but truly find and express themselves as artists in the process. At the same time, new blockchain tech is allowing art to spread on much larger scales, already demonstrated as capable of drawing huge audiences and global recognition for talented artists.

A Tribute Through Eras & Perspectives

The team behind Mono Lisa De Histoire explained that each of their artists brings a personal vision to a classic or trend when designing a piece for the series, noting that today’s list of female icons has grown exponentially since the time of Lisa del Giocondo. Through this limited series, they pay homage to these women while breathing fresh life into a centuries-old masterpiece.
